The Culture Exhibit
Joel Kayamba
I was born and raised in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. I moved to the United States at 13, where my journey as an artist began. Music was my first creative practice, eventually leading me to explore photography, videography, and graphic design. Along the way, I fell in love with the freedom of simply creating art, regardless of the medium. Today, I’m a multidisciplinary artist based in Lithonia, Georgia, using different forms of creativity to express ideas, emotions, and experiences.

I describe unity as complete harmony—a place where everything flows without friction. To me, unity is the feeling that different elements can exist together while still creating something whole and meaningful. It is not necessarily about everything being the same; rather, it is about understanding how differences can complement one another and contribute to a shared purpose.
Unity can be found in the way people connect with each other, but it can also exist within nature, art, design, music, and everyday experiences. When separate elements come together naturally, they can create something that feels balanced and intentional. One element does not have to overpower another. Instead, each part has its own role, and together they create a sense of completeness.
