The Culture Exhibit
Nylah Desir
Nylah Desir is a Haitian-born, self-taught photographer known for capturing personal and community moments. Inspired by home videos and family photos, she uses film photography to document life’s fleeting moments. Desir is recognized for her work in Atlanta's queer nightlife, celebrating diverse identities with authenticity and joy. Her photography often goes beyond aesthetics, focusing on deeply personal, gender-affirming moments that allow her subjects to see themselves genuinely. Through her lens, she aims to celebrate and strengthen the identities she photographs.

Unity to me means community, celebration, care, visibility, and complete awareness that all of our struggles are linked. Like many other immigrants, I understand what it means to build a sense of belonging in a place that may not always make space for you. Unity reminds us to recognize the ways our different identities and experiences intersect, making room for one another. It reminds us to not just think individualistically, but to think about the collective and what is best for everyone involved.
